I’ve been drooling over the Batis 85mm f/1.8 for the last few weeks and I pre-ordered it about two weeks ago. Hearing the horror stories of insanely long backorder times has me a little worried the lens won’t arrive before our next little project.

Fortunately, Sony just announced their new lineup of G Master lenses, and one of them is an impressive 85mm f/1.4. The technology pounded into these lenses — specifically the bokeh features in the 85mm f/1.4 and the stabilization in the 70-200mm f/2.8 — may be the turning point for professional photographers looking to make the jump to mirrorless.

Let’s hope they have deep pockets. These lenses are out-of-this-world expensive. The 85mm f/1.4 is a full $600 more than the Batis, and the Batis is considered expensive. The 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is north of $2000 — well more than most people were hoping.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to the reviews as we inch towards a March release.

Update: Check out Chris Gampat’s first impressions of the 85mm f/1.4 GM. This thing looks stunning out of the gate.
