Some simple back-of-the-envelope math this afternoon had me concluding that spending $1 now decreases my future retirement accounts by $9. That’s at 8% annual return over 40 years. I can only imagine the cost if you are shooting for 15% or more in annual returns. This is one way to look at opportunity costs.
