I can understand the idea of giving money, no strings attached, to gain an understanding of how you’re children will handle a cash windfall after you die. You can advise, you can help, you can direct as you see fit or if requested. But then, what happens if your children don’t handle it as well as you’d like? Will resentment start to set in? I’m glad I have decades to figure out this issue — I don’t think it’s too cut and dried.
