⤷ The 40-Hour Work Week Is, in Fact, Life ●

If I could define a few of my competitive advantages, I’d say they include fast-typing (though not this fast), patience, and the willingness to work long and hard hours. The last advantage I think is more due to a Mennonite background than to my own personality. To many folks around here, work is life — sun up to sun down, every single day except Sunday. I’m not willing to do this, of course, but if working 40 hours a week gives me an advantage over the rest of the working world, I’ll take it.

⤷ The Hidden Variable in Opportunity Cost ●

Some simple back-of-the-envelope math this afternoon had me concluding that spending $1 now decreases my future retirement accounts by $9. That’s at 8% annual return over 40 years. I can only imagine the cost if you are shooting for 15% or more in annual returns. This is one way to look at opportunity costs. Alex Cornell will teach you about another way to look at opportunity costs.

⤷ ESV Heirloom Bible Heritage Edition 2021 Review by Bible Buying Guide ●

It’s been awhile since the Bible world was hit with a stunning new premium Bible. For awhile there, Crossway, Schuyler, and Allan were hitting it out of the park every six months. After a lull — specifically the time where Crossway opted to move production to China — there’s some new designs back in the game. Crossway’s new Horween Leather ESV Heirloom Heritage is the first Horween Leather Bible out there. It looks sublime, if you love Horween Leather.

⤷ My Blog Is An Extension Of Me ●

I really like Greg’s comments here. There was a time and place perhaps where blogs could write about one particular thing and maybe have business potential. I’m unsure how prevalent that would be now. Instead, it’s simply easier to write about stuff you care about, no matter how knowledgeable you are about the topic. For me, that runs the gamut from photography, tech, and Star Wars and will even touch on fashion at some point in time. I love me a nice pair of loafers.

⤷ An iPhone 13 Pro Photo Story from Amsterdam ●

You may know the Basic Apple Guy as the blog with all the cool wallpapers. But you should start to know the blog for photography as well. These iPhone 13 Pro photos — especially the long exposure photos — are really, really well done.

⤷ Marcus Lloyd’s Vienna Photo Story ●

I’m unsure if I’ve pointed out Marcus Lloyd’s work on Instagram in the past, but you should check out his feed regardless. Marcus may be my favourite photographer right now and I love that he’s sharing full-blown photo stories on a blog. His work with colour is outrageously good.

⤷ The Secret to Being Witty, Revealed ●

“Like other forms of creativity it is borne of knowledge. Having a rich vocabulary is a starting point.” And developing strong vocabulary is done through reading and writing. Want to be witty? Write.

⤷ I Don’t Use My Phone Much ●

Honestly, same here. But this is changing — I use the iPhone 13 Pro as a camera far more than the iPhone 12 mini. I use it to edit photos now. I use it to message people. Suddenly, I realize why people like having an iPhone.

⤷ 16GB vs 32GB RAM M1 Pro MacBook Multitasking RAM Test ●

There are some really, really, really surprising results here. Basically, it doesn’t look like 32GB of RAM is worth it but in extreme circumstances — the 16GB M1 Pro MacBook Pro is within 3 seconds in all these tests. I’m curious to see how things pan out with a Parallels VM though.

⤷ Wild Superyacht Secrets I Learned When I Became a Deckhand ●

This is sort of the opposite side of the spectrum from the “Professional athletes are normal human beings too.” I don’t think these yacht-folks are normal human beings. Not at all. (That’s not a generalized paintbrush, mind you — these are just some crazy stories.)
