⤷ The Official Star Wars Map ●
If you’re a Star Wars fan, I dare you not to stare at this map for 15 minutes attempting to nail down exactly which episode of which show the planet was introduced. Also, “Starkiller Base” should say “Ilum”.

And to top today’s roundup of HEY-related links is Jason Fried’s breakdown of the compromises made by both Basecamp and Apple to ensure HEY can continue on as a service and app within the App Store. I’m glad this fiasco is over — we can get back to watching the Basecamp team continue revolutionizing how we treat email. I hope they set their sights on allowing notifications for when a new sender hits The Screener and for when emails hit the Imbox.
Nick Heer’s (now somewhat dated) analysis of the HEY controversy with Apple is worth a read. I think this whole “Big business gets to pick and choose winners and losers” is something to keep our eyes on as institutions get bigger and bigger. If you think it’s bad when big business gets to dictate winners and losers, imagine how bad it is when government gets ultra-big.
This is one of the most balanced HEY Email reviews I’ve found so far.
I’m behind the 8-ball when it comes to all the HEY Email news. But in short, I’ve jumped aboard the HEY Email premise and I’m really, really enjoying the revamped email workflow. I receive less important email distractions each day and I really like how The Feed has been implemented. I’m quite excited for HEY to hit the corporate world — if I can consolidate into one email app, I’ll have finally reached my definition of email bliss.
Remember Rogue Squadron? From our N64 days? The game all we millennials played for countless hours when growing up? Squadrons looks like a modern version of that game, and I couldn’t be more excited.
I love Kottke’s article category that helps you cruise back what feels like a millennia to a day and age that is only read about in history books. The Civil War Era pension article: fascinating! One of my particular favourites are the fact that President Tyler’s grandsons are still alive today. Tyler was president in 1841. The Great Span indeed.
The 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/2 are just what the doctor ordered. I’m going to have some difficult decisions to make between these and the 24-70mm f/2.8 L zoom. Also, what’s with those f/11 super telephotos? Crazy stuff.
If you want, you can click through to the actual article, but I personally think Marius’s mushroom comments are equally (probably more) worth your time. There’s a part of me that wants to giggle about how much Marius knows about mushrooms, but then I remember: It’s Marius. He knows everything about the natural world.
I can totally get into the freshly painted keycaps and the slew of updates to this now-4th-generation low-profile mechanical keyboard. At this price, it’s hard not to buy one just to try. Gateron Reds or Browns? Anyone have any thoughts? I’ve read the Reds are quieter and better for office spaces.
