Perhaps this is a spoiled point of view and the result of living in a small town community, but daycare has been one of the best things to happen to our little girls in their early childhood years. Daycare has provided them a huge network of friends, vastly improved social skills, and new motor skills we couldn’t have taught them ourselves.

It is truly amazing to me how a phenomenon I have experienced in my working life has been so wonderfully put into words by Fried. “Consistent work”, they say! “Show up each day”, they say! Yet, for some reason, when “I need to get this done now” is on the line, well, it gets done. I am relieved I’m not the only person who finds some success working this way.

When you corner the market like Federico has the pro-iPad-user market, it’s easy to keep beating the drum and to keep drinking the Kool-aid. Federico following his curiosity has worked wonders. My respect for him as a writer has significantly increased after this article.

I also happen to like removing the iPad and just using the touch screen. Sometimes I use the Apple Pencil. In not one of these contexts would it be best to just buy a Mac.

I recognize that long-form novels and non-fiction interviews win Pulitzer Prizes. I’m not sure if children’s books could win such a prestigious award, but they should. This is one of those books. It’s so well written. Absolutely captivating. Easily the easiest book to read to your child. 11 out of 10, would recommend. Hat tip to Bradley Chambers for the recommendation.
If I could define a few of my competitive advantages, I’d say they include fast-typing (though not this fast), patience, and the willingness to work long and hard hours. The last advantage I think is more due to a Mennonite background than to my own personality. To many folks around here, work is life — sun up to sun down, every single day except Sunday. I’m not willing to do this, of course, but if working 40 hours a week gives me an advantage over the rest of the working world, I’ll take it.
Some simple back-of-the-envelope math this afternoon had me concluding that spending $1 now decreases my future retirement accounts by $9. That’s at 8% annual return over 40 years.
