Here’s a neat, well-designed investment tool specifically for the Canadian investor (hat tip Josiah). Wealthica brings together all your online investment tools and portfolios to one centralized location, allowing you to quickly see your entire portfolio weightings, overall returns of all your holdings, and all transactions from all elements of your portfolio.
Wealthica has options to input additional assets like real estate, valuable assets, and debts to provide an overall personal net worth picture, but I’m not fond of Wealthica to handle this type of reporting. For one, you can’t link individual bank accounts, so it’s not the easiest thing to track debt payments as your liabilities shrink. There also isn’t an easy way to track real estate mortgages, the payments on those mortgages, or any capital appreciation on the real estate holdings.
In short, if you want to track your personal net worth, I still think this is best done on an annual or semi-annual basis (unless your really diligent and track your prepaid expenses (like insurance, property tax, etc.), in which case I think Banktivity is the best app for the cause).
If you’d rather have one app for tracking all your online portfolios, Wealthica seems like a great choice. The iOS app is well designed and easy to use. It eliminates the need to check CIBC Investor’s Edge, RBC’s Direct Investing, Questrade, and Wealthsimple in categorical fashion at the end of the trading day. And if all you’re doing is tracking, it’s completely free to use.
