I generally like Jason’s approach to photography kit. He’s honest — sometimes brutally so — and has no qualms with telling you to shoot with the kit that works best for you.
So when Jason says Sony’s recently announced 85mm f/1.4 GM lens is the better lens, I trust him. After all, it is $500 USD ($800 CDN!) more than the f/1.8 Zeiss Batis lens. Of course the more expensive lens is a better lens.
The real question comes down to value. And if this comparison proves anything, it would be how well the Batis 85mm f/1.8 performs. The Batis is no slouch, and I think I prefer the colour and contrast of the Batis more than the smooth bokeh and extra light in the Sony GM lens.
